College of Staten Island sophomore softball sensation Raechel Strobel closed out the month of May in strong fashion and earns the Hospital for Special Surgery/CUNY Athletic Conference Scholar-Athlete of the month.
A shortstop, Strobel hit .313 for the month with 30 hits and 22 RBI. More importantly, her home run during the 2009 Championship game helped lead the Dolphins (23-14 overall) to the 2009 CUNYAC Championship and an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III national tournament. A First-Team CUNYAC All-Star, she also earned the CSI Coaches’ Award at the school’s annual banquet. Defensively, the Curtis High School alumna had a .930 fielding percentage.
Culminating her second year, Strobel earned a 3.883 Grade Point Average. The Staten Island native is a part of the CUNY Teacher’s Academy and majors in mathematics.
