WAYNE, NJ – They say all good things must come to an end, which unfortunately rang true for the College of Staten Island men's and women's swim teams as their winning streaks came to an end as both fell to William Patterson, Wednesday.
For the men, William & Patterson outscored Staten Island 143-93, while WP's women registered 114 points to the 98 posted by CSI. This marks the CSI men's first loss of the season, while delivering the second for the women.
On the women's side, the competition was stiff as the Dolphins were able to take the top-spot in three of the 11 swimming events. Leading the way for the women was Adrianne Vivas, as the sophomore was not only a member of the winning 200 freestyle relay team (
Tina Chen,
Kelly Walsh,
Karen Ragnanan & Vivas), but came from behind to take the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:57.29. Her new time marks a new season-best for both her and Staten Island as a whole, crushing her previous best of 6:05.03 which was set the evening before against Brooklyn College.
Adding to the women's point total for Staten Island was a first place finish on the 3-meter for junior diver,
April Bartlett.
Making a splash for the men was Tim Sweeney,
Yury Zimarev and
Danila Novikov as the three took the title in three events each. The men opened the meet on a high note as they placed first in the 200 medley relay thanks to the quartette of
Chris Pinto, Novikov, Zimarev and
Derek Villa.
The highlight for Staten Island's men came during the 50 freestyle when Zimarev was able to pull ahead of his competition to not only take the event, but registered a new season-best time with a time of 22.38.
The Dolphins return to the pool on Friday, Dec. 6, when the women travel to face conference foe Hunter College before joining the men in a competition at Ramapo, Saturday, Dec. 7.
