Dolphins Team With Teddy Atlas Foundation to Deliver Thanksgiving Feasts

STATEN ISLAND, NY – It's the holiday season and this Thursday many will travel near and far to join those they love most to gather around the table to enjoy a Thanksgiving feast. However, not everyone is fortunate enough to be able to prepare the traditional Turkey Day feast, but thanks to the help of the Teddy Atlas Foundation and the College of Staten Island Baseball team, 850 families in the New York City area will now have a holiday feast to remember.

Thirty members of the CSI Dolphins baseball team and coaching staff joined the Atlas Foundation to distribute turkeys and all the trimmings to hundreds of families in need, Sunday. While the team and those from the foundation met in the Staten Island neighborhood of West Brighton, the dinners will be distributed through various churches and community service organizations to some of the poorest neighborhoods in and around New York City.

"This is a fantastic organization and we are so proud to be a part of something that allows us to give back to our community," said Head Coach Mike Mauro. "An important part of being a team is doing community service and the Teddy Atlas Foundation is one we enjoy working with each and every year."

Members of the team and coaching staff were in West Brighton throughout the morning as they unloaded two trucks full of Thanksgiving fixings, including turkeys, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce and much more. In all, the foundation was able to giveaway 850 holiday meals to those families in need.

"I am so proud of the work my team has done and their dedication to giving back our community," Mauro added. "We are so thankful to the Teddy Atlas Foundation and all their hard work; we're just happy that we're able to be a part of all the good they're doing."

The Dr. Theodore A. Atlas Foundation is a New York-based 501(c)(3) community service organization that provides financial, legal and emotional support to individuals and organizations in need, and focuses particularly on the needs of children. It was founded in 1997 by boxing trainer and commentator, Teddy Atlas, in order to honor the memory of his father. In the spirit of Dr. Atlas, who provided free medical care to those who could not afford it and made house calls to give personal care to his patients until he was 80 years old, the Foundation has attempted since its inception to ease the burden of the less fortunate among us. And it accomplishes this in a very human way, in a way which preserves the dignity of the people it helps.
