Box Score The College of Staten Island men's basketball squad won for the second straight time as part of conference play, taking a big first half lead to help cruise to a 77-58 win over Brooklyn College at the West Quad Center this evening. The win lifted the Dolphins to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the CUNYAC, while the Bulldogs fell to 2-4, 0-1, respectively.
It took a little while to get going, but after BC took a modest, 5-4, lead after the game's first three minutes, the Dolphins took control. A
Javon Cox jumper gave the Dolphins the lead, and started a numbing 28-6 run over the next nine minutes to give CSI a commanding 33-11 edge. Three
Dylan Bulger baskets powered the run, aided along by a pair of Matt Van Manen transition baskets and a
Louis Valdes three-ball.
A pair of Egjon Gjonbalaj jumpers for BC was able to whittle CSI's first half lead down to 15 points, but CSI was still able to take a 42-24 lead into the lockers, and the team never did look back.
Another Cox jumper gave CSI back a 20 point lead in the second frame with 15 minutes remaining, and from there, BC never got to within 15, while CSi extended to their biggest lead of 23 points midway through the frame.
CSI was led by Cox's dominating 22-point, 15-rebound performance, while Frankie Schettino added 13 and Bulger 12. BC was guided by Jamel Gist and Jai Kellman's 18 markers each. CSI shot 54% to BC's 39% and held a dominating 57-36 edge in rebounds.
Th Dolphins will next be in action on Tuesday, December 10, when they travel to Montclair State University to take on the Red Hawks at 7pm. It will mark their sixth and final road contest to start the season before their home opener on Thursday, December 12 against Ramapo College.
