JURIK RECORDS FIRST COLLEGIATE CAREER GOAL AGAINST GOLDEY-BEACOM

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island women's soccer team hosted Goldey-Beacom College on Saturday afternoon for a non-conference matchup at Dolphin Soccer Park. The Dolphins took an early lead with a milestone goal, but the Lightning responded with an equalizer and eventually netted a second goal to hand CSI a 2–1 defeat.

CSI delivered their best offensive performance of the season, recording 19 total shots, 13 of them in the first half. Less than six minutes into regulation, Mazzy Cirinelli launched a long ball downfield to Annika Jurik, who netted a swift goal to make it 1-0 and to record her first collegiate career goal. 

The Dolphins maintained offensive pressure with consecutive shots from Sara O'Donnell, Gabriela Castro, Phoebe Ossola, and Jurik. Shortly after Ossola's shot on goal, the Lightning scored the tying goal, sending the game into halftime tied at 1-1.

With the Dolphins slowed in the second half, the Lightning recorded 11 shots in the period, including the game-winning goal that sealed a 2-1 defeat for the Dolphins. Jurik led the team offensively with her milestone goal on five shots while Albana Gjonbalaj tallied three shots. 

The College of Staten Island women's soccer team will feature a four-game road stint, starting with East Coast Conference (ECC) opponents St. Thomas Aquinas College on Wednesday Oct. 1 at 12:00pm in Sparkill, NY.
