1/16/2026 9:00:00 AM

STATEN ISLAND, NY -  The College of Staten Island men's and women's indoor track & field teams return to Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Friday for their fourth appearance of the season, competing in the NYC Gotham Cup.

The Dolphins most recently took to the track at the Spartan Invitational on Jan. 6, where the men's team delivered a record-setting performance, shattering two program records and tying another.

Hric Continues to Raise the Standard

Before the holiday break, Dominik Hric set the program record in the weight throw at the Seahawk Shootout with a mark of 12.16 meters. He wasted no time improving upon that performance at last Friday's Spartan Invitational, resetting the school standard with a throw of 12.22 meters. Hric placed 15th overall in a deep field of 43 competitors and finished fourth in his flight of 15.

Men Shatter the 4x200 Relay Record

The Dolphins' momentum carried into the relay events, where the quartet of Steven Elcock, Karran Riley, Jeremiah Downer, and KJ Ede delivered a standout performance in the 4x200 relay. Ede anchored the team to a program-record time of 1:29.07 as he crossed the finish line, etching the group's name into the CSI record books.

Make Way for Whelan

Sam Whelan made a strong return to competition last week, racing in both the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes. In the 60m, Whelan posted a personal-best time of 7.02, winning his heat and finishing seventh overall. He followed that effort with a time of 22.20 in the 200m, placing third in his heat and sixth overall.

Looking Back at the Gotham Cup

The Dolphins competed at the NYC Gotham Cup during the 2024–25 indoor season, where Jeremiah Downer set a program record in the 60m hurdles, his third consecutive meet accomplishing the feat. Adonijah Washington also made history at the meet, setting the school record in the triple jump with a leap of 11.47 meters.
