James Luginsland

James Luginsland was elevated to his current role of Associate Head Coach of the Cross-Country / Track & Field programs in the fall of 2022.  In his new positions he will be involved in program recruiting, program administration, and planning.  He will also continue to work closely with all of the Dolphins' throwers and jumpers.

Luginsland joined the Dolphins as an assistant in the fall of 2019 specific to jumps and throws and contributed to the growth of the program throughout its transition to full NCAA Division II membership.  Prior to joining the Dolphins, he made coaching stops at Stevens Institute of Technology, Division I New Jersey Institute of Technology, and Montclair State University, his alma mater.  Across five years spent at these institutions, he coached eight All Atlantic Sun Conference honorees, NJIT's first-ever conference champion, a pair of national qualifiers for the NCAA National Championship at Montclair, and several NJAC All-Conference award winners.  He also served as a volunteer assistant coach at Virginia Union University in Richmond, Virginia before spending the last three seasons at the College of Staten Island.

Selected as an attendee for the USATF Emerging Elite Coaches Clinic for throwers, Luginsland is a Level II Throws Certified Coach by the USATF,  a USATF Certified Level II Jumps Coach, and a certified USTFCCCA Strength & Conditioning Coach as well.  

With an undergraduate and Master's Degree in Chemistry, Luginsland doubles as a Chemistry instructor at Perth Amboy Tech in New Jersey.  He lives in Bridgewater, NJ, where he was born and raised.
