CSI's Female Student-Athlete of the month honors are awarded to Tara Meiners of the women's swim team. A first-year standout for the program, Meiners has led the Dolphins in the pool this season, and has enjoyed a stellar start to her first campaign with the team.
A freshman at the College of Staten Island via Laguardia High School, Meiners is specializing this season in freestyle and backstroke events for the Dolphins. So far, her exploits have been sensation, as the first-year product has notched a team-high eight first-place finishes, to go along with two silver placings. She has also earned a single second place finish in relay events.
Meiners hasn't waited long to start playing havoc with the CSI records book, either. On November 1, she swam the 100-yard backstroke in 1:10.33, a new school record. She closed the month in the same fashion, shattering her old record on November 30, aginst Hunter College, measuring at 1:07.95. To date, she holds CSI-bests in the 200-yard Freestyle (2:18.00), 50-yard Freestyle (28.36), 100-yard Backstroke (1:07.95), and the 500-yard Freestyle (6:42.93).
