Senior Eros Qama of the men’s swimming and diving team has been named a CSI Student-Athletes of the Month for January, 2007.

Qama’s record-breaking performances in the month of January were pitoval to his team’s success, as the standout swimmer out of Curtis High School helped his team record a perfect 4-0 record during the month. Qama saw his squad win back-to-back conference meets, as the Dolphins defeated York College by a score of 82-35 on January 5th, and five days later, were triumphant in downing Lehman College by a score of 122-80. In addition, CSI picked up a non-conference victory against SUNY-Maritime, winning the meet by a score of 152-80. Then, on January 30th, CSI completed the month by downing Old Westbury, 106-56. In the meet against the Lightning, Qama set a CSI record in the 100-yard Butterfly event, timing in at 53:57. The time broke Qama’s own old record of 53.74, which he set in 2004. Qama would strike again in the 500-yard Freestyle event, putting together a time of 4:57.63 and shattering the old record of 4:59.61 which he set a season ago. In the victory over SUNY-Maritime, he recorded three first-place finishes, including a 1:51.14 time in the 200 Yard Freestyle, a time of 51.51 in the 100 Yard Freestyle, and a time of 5:03.06 in the 500 Yard Freestyle. Finally, Qama took home City University of New York Athletic Conference Men’s Swimmer of the Week honors, as announced on January 24.
