COLLEGE OF STATEN ISLAND ATHLETICS

John Guagliardo

As the College of Staten Island’s first and only women’s soccer coach, John Guagliardo has already enjoyed a host of great achievements, having collected a total of eight championships over his first nine years at the helm, compiling an overall record of 88-53-3 (.611).
A coach for over two decades, Guagliardo’s most notable tenure was as the head coach at Notre Dame Academy High School on Staten Island, where he spent 14 years.  The team won multiple division titles, city titles, and was a state finalist in 2003.  Guagliardo has also guided numerous travel programs, most recently coaching the Staten Island Select Under-17 squad to a semifinal berth in the USA Cup, where the squad fell to eventual-champion team Canada, 1-0.
Guagliardo has taken the same approach at CSI.  Rather than establishing set goals, he believes that a team must continuously work towards challenging itself to achieve more and more, and his teams have already earned six CUNY Championships in nine years.  He preaches a family environment and a passion for the game to his recruits that he hopes will lead to even greater successes.
Currently, Guagliardo doubles as a building supervisor for the campus’ Sports & Recreation Center and works membership services for the facility as well, making him a familiar face within the confines of the athletics department.
