IMPROBABLE COMEBACK LEADS YESHIVA OVER CSI

Monica Concepcion scored a career high 10 kills and 12 digs in the tough loss
The College of Staten Island women's volleyball squad were in prime position for a victory tonight, but eventually fell to Yeshiva University in a five-set marathon in non-conference play at the College of New Rochelle.  CSI took two games to one lead, and led 21-9 in the fourth game before the Maccabees came roaring back, winning game four, 26-24, and then holding on to a 15-12 winner in game five.  The Maccabees improved to 3-8 overall while the Dolphins slipped to 2-7.

The Dolphins started flat in the first game, as Yeshiva pulled in front early and never trailed, going on to a 25-21 win.  CSI rallied to pull to within three points on a number of occasions but couldn't turn the tide.  The Dolphins, however, were up to the task during the next game, as Jean Marie Lewandowski led the Dolphins at one point to five straight points en route to a 25-15 win.

In a pivotal game three, CSI nursed a lead from start to finish, going up 8-3 before Yeshiva started to gain ground.  With a steady game from Danielle Ponsiglione and Monica Concepcion, the Dolphins pulled ahead late, soaring to a 25-19 win and a 2-1 game lead.

CSI seemed to be on cruise control from there, and raced out to a commanding 21-9 lead in the fourth game, seemingly on their way to a win, aided by four straight service aces from Vasiliki Stergioula.  But Yeshiva called their second time out at that point, as took full control as kills from Sarit Zukowski and Jackie Berger frustrated the Dolphins, who were forced into eight attack errors, and a series of service errors, part of a heavy 17 on the night.

CSI had a quick 2-0 lead in the final set but under the serve of Zukowski, Yeshiva rattled off four straight points and never looked back, completed the improbable come from behind win.

The Dolphins, who were without offensive leaders Ma Socorro-Calleja and Pola Poskrobko were led by Stergioula's 13 kills and six aces.  Christina Trunzo-Mosleh finished with a career-high 11 kills while Jennifer Samuel tallied 24 assists and 17 digs.  Yeshiva saw 12 kills from Zukowski while Moriah Green was exceptional with 23 assists and 21 defensive digs.

CSI is next in action on Tuesday, September 27, when they face City College of New York at 7pm at the Sports & Recreation Center.
