Box Score

STATEN ISLAND, NY – Loykee Victoria Wong led the College of Staten Island volleyball team with 17 digs as the Dolphins dropped a three-set decision to Rutgers-Newark Saturday afternoon at the CSI Sports and Recreation Center. Set scores were 12-25, 19-25 and 18-25.

After this afternoon's match, the Dolphins are now 5-12 overall on the season, 2-2 in CUNYAC play.

While Wong led the defensive front for CSI, it was Pola Poskrobko who was on the offensive attack hitting a team-high .200 (5 kills on 15 attempts). In addition, the junior was a power behind the line adding a pair of service aces to her stat line.

The Dolphins finished the night at a .029 hitting percentage while Rutgers finished at a .139 clip.

The Scarlet Raiders edged out the Dolphins in many categories statistically, with the largest difference being in digs as Rutgers recorded 32 kills to CSI's 17. Leading the way for the Raiders was Adrianna Pagnotta with nine and Veronica Chau adding seven kills of her own.

CSI did win the digs battle. The Dolphins put up 45 in comparison to the 31 posted by the Raiders. Wong led the way for Staten Island, but Monica Concepcion and Brittany Minondo tallied eight each, respectively.

The Raiders won the first set by hitting .259 to CSI's .214, and never relinquished the lead. The Dolphins held the lead once, and matched Rutgers twice in set two but were not able to hold the momentum in the Raiders' 25-19 victory.

Set three was a battle, seeing 10 ties and seven lead changes. The Dolphins saw the lead four times but could not hold on in the 18-25 Rutgers win.

CSI will travel across the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge and head to Hunter College for a CUNYAC tri-match where they will face both Hunter and Brooklyn College Monday morning. The matches are slated for 8 a.m. and 10 a.m.
