Box Score The College of Staten Island women's volleyball squad fell in straight games tonight, succumbing to visiting Lehman Ciollege by a 3-0 count as part of CUNYAC play at the Sports & Recreation Center. CSI fell to 2-20 overall and 0-7 in CUNYAC play, while the Lightning lifted their marks to 19-6, 7-1, respectively.
Lehman raced out to an 8-0 lead in game one and essentially never looked back. CSi would close to within a handful on a couple of occasions, and did the same in the second game as well, but each time LC was able to battle and rally ahead to keep CSI at bay. Individual scores of the games were 25-15, 25-14, and 25-9.
The power behind the Lightning tonight was the service. Lehamn posted a hefty 25 aces in the match, led by Cari English's eight aces. Jo-Marie Aquino posted five, while Imani Dubois and Julia Mercado each had four. The Dolphins only mustered up eight kills in the entire match on 36 attempts, led by
Selma Kolenovic's five kills. meanwhile the Lightning spread out 34 kills, led by Besa Zabelaj's 9. Defensively, Lehman's Dubois led all scorers with seven digs, while CSI's
Alexandra Pompeii registered six in her first career start.
A bright spot of the match for CSI was their giving back in the name of Breast Cancer research. Tonight marked the team's annual breast cancer awareness night, and the squad raised over $250 in baked goods for the Staten Island Breast Cancer Research Initiative.
The Dolphins are next in action on Tuesday, October 29, when they play host to York College at the Sports & Recreation Center at 7pm. It will mark Senior Night at CSI, as the team will honor lone senior
