The College of Staten Island women's volleyball team halted their season-long losing skid to six games, scoring a 3-0 win over Culinary Institute this afternoon at the Sports & Recreation Center today. CSI won the straight-set match, 25-22, 25-17, and 25-17. The win improved the Dolphins to 5-10 overall while the Steels fell to 7-2.
The Steels fell victim to many of their own errors, spreading out 30 attack errors, five serve errors and 13 receiving errors. The Dolphins, meanwhile, collected 25 kills in the game, adding 13 serve aces, one of their team strengths.
CSI had a well-distributed attack. Monica Concepcion led the way with eight kills, while Pola Poskrobko aided in the effort with six. Siobhan Granich posted a season-high five kills as well. JeanMarie Lewandowski posted a game-high 12 assists, while Poskrobko tallied five aces. Defensively, the Dolphins' Concepcion was all over the court with 16 digs, while Victoria Wong collected 13.
The Steels scored a nice game through Emily Brown, who posted 9 kills and 12 digs. Kristin McGinn led the way for the visitors with 11 assists, while Cheyanne Langis posted a healthy 22 digs.
CSI will be back in action on Wednesday, October 9, when they host the College of St. Elizabeth in a 7pm affair.
