Box Score 2 The College of Staten Island women's volleyball team garnered a split in its first CUNYAC action on the season, falling to City College of New York before defeated Medgar Evers College in matches played at York College. The Dolphins now stand at 2-3 overall this season, while leveling to 1-1 in CUNYAC play.
CSI started against CCNY, and took the first set 25-20, before falling in straight sets from there, 28-26, 25-11, and 25-21. CSI scattered 26 kills in the contest, but were also plagued by 26 attack errors, seven serve errors and seven combined block and ball-handling errors as well. CCNY was also aided by the serve, hurting CSI with 18 service aces.
Still, CSI saw a valued performance from
Monica Concepcion, who led the way with eight kills on 32 total attacks.
Catherine Ebro and
Pola Poskrobko each tallied six kills, while
JeanMarie Lewandowski garnered 21 assists, and Loykee Wong finished with a team-high 17 digs. CCNY was led by Leticia Marotti's 19 kills on 51 attacks.
CSI had better success in their second match against MEC. The Dolphins boasted a season-best 38 team kills in the game to go with a .369 attack percentage. The balanced effort saw Poskrobko lead the way with 9 kills, while newcomer
Tiffany Benjamin added eight. Lewandowski tallied 22 assists while Wong once again led defensively with 10 digs. CSI took the opener 25-20, and then tallied a 25-12 win, before putting MEC away, 28-26, to win in straight games. CSI also garnered 13 serve aces, led by three each from Wong and
Justine Kwok.
?The Dolphins will be back in action on Tuesday, September 17, when they travel to play perennial CUNYAC-power Baruch College at 6pm.
