Box Score The College of Staten Island women's volleyball squad fell for the third-straight time this evening, coming back but falling short against visiting Kings College (PA), by a 3-1 count. The Monarchs took the opening two games, 25-16, 25-15, before CSI roared back to win the third game, 25-20. CSI overcame a big hole to make things lively in the fourth game, but Kings held on, 25-21. The Monarchs improved to 7-5 overall, while CSI fell to 4-7.
Kings tallied 13 kills next to six errors in each of the first two games to take big wins, fueled by long service rallies. CSI came back to score the third game win despite scattering only five kills in the game, as they were mainly fueled by a heavy 12 kill errors by the visitors. The Dolphins trailed by as many as eight points in the final fourth set, but seemed poised for a comeback, tying the score late at 20-20, before Kings rallied for five of the final six points in the win.
Kings' offense was fueled by Jessica Carr, as she tallied a game-high 16 kills on 47 attempts to go with five defensive digs. Alexa Nelson finished with 9 kills on 27 attempts adding six digs, while both Kelsie Kramer and Sarah Busse ended with seven kills apiece. Mary Loughran notched 36 assists in the contest, while Busse led defensively with 14 digs.
The Dolphins were out-killed, 51-20, in the match, but were led by
Pola Poskrobko's 8 kills on 33 attempts. JeanMarie Lewansowski turned in a fine performance, posting a team-high 11 assists and 18 digs.
Brittany Minondo was terrific on the back line, posting seven service aces, a game-high. CSI posted 16 aces altogether.
CSI will return to action this weekend. They travel to Philadelphia for a tri-match at Bryn Athyn College, where they play the host school and Christendom College, beginning at 11am.
