Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

CSI VOLLEYBALL SERVES UP WIN OVER PURCHASE, 3-0

Paced by an astounding 22 service aces, the College of Staten Island women's volleyball team posted a 3-0 winner over Purchase College in non-conference play this evening in Purchase, NY.  CSI won by scores of 25-16, 25-11, and 25-19.  The win, the second straight for the Dolphins, improved CSI to 2-1 overall, while the Panthers fell to 0-2 to start the season.

The opening game could not have started any better for the Dolphins, as CSI opened up a 13-0 lead powered by an amazing eight service aces alone from senior Brittany Minondo.  Minondo, who finished with seven aces against Yeshiva on Tuesday, finished with 11 on the evening, to go with a team-leading 15 assists.  A kill by Minondo and an ace by freshman Olivia Ayala exploded CSI's lead later to 22-6, and even though Purchase battled back, CSI cruised to victory.

In the second set, things were rather even in the early stages, and CSI led just 6-4 before posting a 9-2 run to open up the set, highlighted by two Siobhan Granich kills and two more aces by Vanessa Reyes.  Two more Minondo aces started the third set, as CSI raced out to a 4-0 lead, and later, a 12-5 advantage, before securing a 25-19 winner.

CSI finished with 20 kills, led by Selma Kolenovic's six, while Reyes added five.  Libero Victoria Wong led the way defensively with 12 digs, part of 40 on the night for CSI.  The Panthers, who spread out only 9 kills through three sets, were led by Logan Morrissey's three.  Alex Lally posted 10 digs.

The win by CSI is their final test before they open up conference play.  CSI will travel CCNY, and will play John Jay College at 9:00am, before a 1:00pm battle with Brooklyn College as part of CUNYAC all-day play at CCNY.
