The College of Staten Island women's volleyball squad is back on the hardwood tonight and looking to snap a four-match skid, as they will travel to York College to take on the Cardinals as part of CUNYAC play in Queens, NY. First serve is scheduled for a 7pm start.
CSI vs. YORK COLLEGE AT-A-GLANCE
Matchup: College of Staten Island (2-6 Overall, 1-2 CUNYAC) vs. York College (2-10 Overall, 1-3 CUNYAC)
Where: York College - 94-20 Guy R Brewer Boulevard, Jamaica, NY
First Serve: 7:00pm
All-Time Series: CSI leads 11-3 (since 2001)
Last Year's Result: CSI won 3-0
Players to Watch (CSI): The Dolphins got a bit of good news this week when they learned that senior libero
Victoria Wong took home CUNYAC Libero of the Week honors, after her 27-dig performance against SJC-Brooklyn last week. She will look to anchor the team defensively, while fellow senior
Siobhan Granich will look to add to her 45 kills on the year.
Vanessa Reyes leads the attack overall with 48 kills while Skenderije Mila tops all with 16 service aces.
Players to Watch (YC): Cardinals attacker Shauncia McClendon is topping all with 53 kills in 194 attempts this season. She has also been good behind the line, scoring 28 aces this season. Chayana Jimenez leads a balanced back line with 64 digs this season. Right next to her is McClendon with 56 and Allison Ahmed with 51.
News and Notes: The Dolphins have won the last 11 meetings in the series dating back to 2004 and have won the last four matches that have taken place at York College. The Dolphins actually have a better record against York away from CSI (7-1) than they do at home (4-2). One of these teams is going to break a season long losing skid tonight. The Dolphins have lost four straight while the Cardinals have dropped seven in a row after starting out the season 2-3. This game is a big one in the standings. Only six teams will make the CUNYAC Postseason Tournament and right now the Dolphins and Cardinals are both on the outside looking in. The Dolphins are in seventh place with a 1-2 mark, while the Cardinals are at 1-3 in eighth place. A win tonight by CSI will lift them into a tie for fourth place in the standings, while a loss would shift them all the way down to eighth.
