The College of Staten Island women's soccer team dropped their third in four games on a hot day at the CSI Soccer Complex to the Violets of New York University, 3-0.  The Dolphins fell to 6-3-1 on the year while the Violets improved to 5-2-1 overall. 

The Violets controlled the pace of the game and cashed in in the 6th minute of the first half. The dominant NYU play led to a corner kick for the Violets.  Alex Benedict tee off the corner kick and placed it near post where Isabelle Turner was able to head home her first goal of the season. Just 10 Shominutes later a miscommunication on the right flank of the Dolphins' defense allowed the Violets to bury home their second of the game.  Ashlyn Krygowski and Marquel Love teamed up for a give-and-go around Susan Aracena which led to a cross into the box which found Turner for her second goal of the year.

Staten Island was finally able to get some offense which allowed Lauren Smith to curl a shot near post which called upon Sophia Danielsen to make a save. Perhaps the best opportunity for the Dolphins in the first half came off of a set piece by Natalia Sandor.  Sandor curled in a beautiful ball to the back post and found Lizbeth Aparicio wide open.  Aparicio would send her shot just right of the post for the most threatening opportunity for the Dolphins.
  Shortly after that attempt, the Violets would put their third into the back of the net from 40-yards out.  A loose ball would find the foot of Julia Raith in the center of the pitch.  With DiBenedetto off of her line, Raith uncorked a shot over DiBenedetto's head to put the Violets up 3-0 in the first half.

The second half was a far cry from what the first half showed.  The Violets opted to possess the ball and keep it away from the Dolphins for a majority of the second half.  Maraya Jones was placed between the pipes to begin the second half and was forced to make three saves and didn't allow a single goal in 45 minutes of action.  Jones was called upon to make a huge save 66th minute and was able to come away victorious. After posting three shots in the first half, the Dolphins were held without a shot in the second for a final shot total of 11-3 in favor of NYU. 

This afternoon's loss marks the third in four games for the Dolphins and they will look to bounce-back on Saturday, September 30 when they travel to Rosemont, PA to take on non-conference opponents Rosemont at 2:00 pm.
