New Rochelle, NY | The College of Staten Island women's volleyball team fell for the sixth time in their last seven games, as they were handed a heavy-handed, 3-0, decision in non-conference play at the hands of the College of New Rochelle. Individual scores were 25-10, 25-12, and 25-8. CSI fell to an even 10-10 overall while the Blue Angels rose to 6-14.
Genesis Soto-Ruiz scored two kills early and then Imani DeBose posted two more as CNR got off to a 10-4 lead in the opening set. A
Francesca Castellano kill for CSI got them closer at 12-7, but CNR would finish on a 13-3 bender to end the frame. Soto-Ruiz posted a pair of aces and Simaima FukoFuka posted three kills.
A poor start also plagued CSI in the second set as CNR got off to a 7-0 tear. Late a 5-1 run gave the home team a 16-6 edge as Alejandra Figueroa posted a pair of aces. FukoFuka and DeBose added kills late to finish the Dolphins off at 25-12.
After a 6-0 start, CNR went up 13-2 in the final set, and coasted the rest of the way to a 25-8 final.
FukoFuka led CNR with nine kills on just 10 attacks, adding three total blocks. DuBose finished with seven kills, while Stephanie Garcia posted 16 digs and Soto-Diaz added three aces. CSI was paced by Castellano's and
Jay-La Guy's four kills apiece. Castellano also put up 13 digs.
CSI will next take to the road on Saturday for a pair of non-conference tests. They will travel to William Paterson University, where they will face the hosts at 11:00 am followed by the Mount Saint Mary College at 1pm.
