Union, NJ | In their penultimate match of the season, the College of Staten Island women's tennis team dropped a non-conference decision at the hands of Kean University, 7-2. The loss dipped the Dolphins down to 2-6 on the season, while the Cougars lifted to 3-7.
CSI made their dent on the score sheet on the high part of the order, but not before Kean got off to a commanding, 3-0, start after doubles. Emily Kopp and Sneha Patil were efficient in an 8-0 win at No. 2, powering over
Guetanie Romain and
Iris Cule. One step lower, the No. 3 team of Jan Bayanin and Nicole Nin were also dominating in an 8-1 win over
Mariah DeGuia and
Dilnoza Pulatova.
The most competitive doubles match came right at the top, where points were being traded by KU's Anna Chan and and Jada Mack and CSI's duo of
Tristiana Adragna and
Hannah Bruschi. Despite a strong push, it was the Cougars who made the final rally, pulling out an 8-6 win.
KU needed just two wins in singles to secure the victory and they would double that in singles with four straight sets wins in flights 3-6. CSI's Adragna and Bruschi got even, however, in singles with wins at the first and second flight. At No. 1, Adragna defeated Chan, 6-2, 6-1, while Bruschi was a winner over Kopp in three sets.
CSI will finalize their regular season on Thursday, October 18, when they take on York College in their CUNYAC final game. The game has playoff implications on the line and the winner will advance to the Postseason Tournament while the loser will be eliminated from postseason play.
