All-Time Series: John Jay leads, 19-12
Players to Watch (CSI): The Dolphins are being led through the early season by newcomer
Francesca Castellano, who leads the team with 52 kills and 75 digs. She is also second on the team with 16 service aces. The ace leader is
Caitlin Esposito with 17.
Margaret O'Malley-Rebovich has also been crucial at the net, posting 47 total kills having played one less match than leader Castellano. She is also the team leader in blocks with a total of 15, 10 more than any other Dolphin. Look for
Alexandria Boachie-Ansah and
Cassidy Iannariello to also have big outputs tonight. Boachie-Ansah has 12 aces this season to go with 40 digs and 21 kills. Iannariello is second on the team with 57 digs.
Arianna Spears is the primary setter on the team by a wide margin, posting 146 helpers this year.
Players to Watch (JJC): The Bloodhounds have a balanced attack at the front of the net with Niovis Monsanto, Mballou Berete and Brianna Geraldo. Monsanto leads all with 25 kills and has a team-best seven service aces to her credit. Geraldo has 20 kills, and leads the way defensively with 30 digs on the back line. Berete also has 20 kills. Mirialis Almanzar will need to be accounted for defensively, as she has 16 total blocks this season, 11 of them solo. Kimberly Rodriguez will be a central focus to JJC this evening, as she has 80 assists this season.
News & Notes: The series between John Jay and CSI in recent years has been a good one. JJC has won 19 of the 31 meetings all time, but in recent years, CSI has won seven of the last 12 meetings. The Doghouse has been friendly to the Bloodhounds, however, in this series, as they have a 9-3 record over CSI on home turf. CSI's last win over JJC in tonight's building came way back in 2012, a 3-0 affair. CSI's last two wins in the series both came in 2014, and both were on neutral ground. Tonight's game for CSI wraps up a five-game road swing for CSI. They are 2-2 in this stretch, and both of the wins were CUNYAC victories that came at CCNY on Saturday. John Jay has started the season 1-2, but tonight is their home opener. They are 0-2 in CUNY play, having dropped both ends of a trimatch played at Brooklyn College to both Brooklyn and Hunter, both by 3-0 counts. Both teams have beaten St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn this season. CSI defeated SJC, 25-12, 27-25, and 25-19, while JJC defeated the Bears, 25-13, 25-22, and 25-14.
