Jamaica, NY | The College of Staten Island women's soccer team used a steady attack through 90 minutes to claim an 8-0 win today on the road against CUNYAC-rival York College. The win improved CSI to 6-3 overall and a perfect 3-0 in CUNYAC play, while the Cardinals fell to 0-9-1, 0-4, respectively.
The Dolphins scattered 20 shots in the opening stanza, more than enough to keep the pressure throughout. It took 14 minutes, but the Dolphins finally got on the register when
Lizbeth Aparicio scored unassisted when converging on a loose ball and taking it in to goal. While that proved to be the game winner, the necessary insurance tally came just 1:50 later, at the 16:35 mark, when
Mirsade Pelinkovic, the reigning CUNYAC Rookie of the Week accepted a cross from the left and buried one in past YC keeper, Stephanie Gutierrez.
CSI would score another before the break, as
Adrianna Parello mopped up a loose rebound in front of the York goal off of a blocked shot, making it 3-0 with just 5:59 to go until halftime.
CSI went into the break with a head of steam, and came out equally on fire. Just 31 ticks into the second stanza, Aparicio scored again, this time punching one in off of a blocked shot in front of the goal. Just a little under five minutes later, Pelikovic tallied her second, taking over a turnover and going in alone for the shot to make it 5-0. Just 47 seconds later, Parello canned her second goal, accepting a
Nermina Bracic pass and putting one in past Gutierrez.
The Dolphins eased the pressure from there, but Bracic would add a goal in the 73rd minute and
Alexa Appel would score her first with just over 11 minutes to play to complete the scoring.
CSI would finish with a 38-1 edge in shots (14-0 on goal), and held an 8-0 edge in corner kicks. For the Dolphins, the win extended their streak to 16-straight games unbeaten against CUNYAC opponents.
The Dolphins will get back to work this weekend, when they travel to face Neumann University in a 3pm showdown on Saturday as part of non-conference play.
