DOLPHINS TENNIS RIPS THROUGH SJC-LI FOR SECOND-STRAIGHT

The College of Staten Island men's tennis unit won for the second-straight time on Friday evening, and for a second time over St. Joseph's College.  The Dolphins defeated the Brooklyn campus last weekend, and scored a 9-0 win over the Long Island side to improve to 2-1 overall.  St. Joseph's (LI) fell to 1-2 with the home defeat.

Play got started with Doubles and CSi made their presence felt with a pair of 8-0 wins in the Nos. 2-3 spots.  Matthew Vesci and Tao Lin did the honors in the No. 2 spot, improving to 3-0 as a Doubles team in the process.  In the No. 3 spot, Raymond Hwang teamed up with Lesly DeCastro to make it an 8-0 win over SJC's William Vita and Damien Duda.

In the top spot, CSI did go back-and-forth but ultimately was able to pull away for an 8-4 win, with the team of Ivi Selenica and Alex Tsui scoring the win over Ryan Freeley and Kyle Conway.

When play switched to Singles, lighting became a factor and so all flights were decided in single eight-point sets.  CSI was convincing throughout.  Selenica scored an 8-3 winner over Freeley in the pole position, while Vesci was strong in an 8-4 win at No. 2 against Nick Bongiorno.  Hwang scored an 8-2 win over Conway, while Tsui was dominant in an 8-2 win over Kenneth Patterson.  DeCastro won his most convincing match this season in the No. 5 spot over Duda, 8-1.

It took a little more time, but CSi was able to finish with a sweep thanks to Matthew Kotlyar in the No. 6 spot, as he surpassed Dylan Trude, 8-7 (8-2).

CSI will be right back on the courts tomorrow when they open up CUNYAC play against Hunter College at the CSI Tennis Center at 12 Noon on Saturday.
