MEETDAY: SWIMMING & DIVING OPENS 2022-2023 SEASON AT HOME AGAINST ADELPHI

10/21/2022 8:00:00 AM

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Swimming & Diving Team will open the 2022-2023 season this afternoon when they host Adelphi University at 4:00 PM.  It will be the first meet of the season for both teams, and for the Dolphins, it will be the program's first meet since being approved for full NCAA Division II membership this past summer.

CSI and Adelphi have an extensive history against one another in the pool dating back to the year 2000.  On the women's side, the history has favored the Panthers as the Dolphins have not picked up the victory in a meet against Adelphi since 2001.  Entering today's meet, the Dolphins will be looking to snap an eleven-meet losing streak against the Panthers.  The history between the two men's teams has been a lot more evenly matched as the Dolphins are 5-8 against Adelphi.  Prior to last season's 101-76 victory, the CSI men had lost four straight meets against the Panthers.

This year's Dolphins squad features a mix of returners and newcomers with the two rosters combining for a total of 22 swimmers, eleven men and eleven women.  Among the returners for the men is 2021 record-setter Anthony Attenborough.  Attenborough broke a pair of CSI records last season in the 500 and 1000 yard freestyle events.  In addition to Attenborough, the Dolphins roster includes another seven returning swimmers and three incoming freshmen.  On the women's side, the returners are highlighted by record-setting diver Jordan Swanson.  Last season, she set a new women's diving record in the 1-meter event with a total score of 244.05 across six dives.  The women's roster also includes five returners and six incoming freshman who will make their Dolphins debuts in today's meet.
