Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

WOMEN'S SOCCER CAN'T HOLD ON TO EARLY LEAD IN LOSS TO SPARTANS, 2-1

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Women's Soccer Team could not hold on to an early lead in today's game against St. Thomas Aquinas College as the Spartans rallied from behind to defeat the Dolphins 2-1.  After CSI scored the opening goal of the match in the first half, the Spartans would score a pair of unanswered goals to earn their second victory of the season.  For the Dolphins, the loss drops them to 0-5-1 overall and 0-2 in conference play.  The win for the Spartans improved their overall record to 2-6 and their conference record to 1-2.

The Dolphins opened the scoring in the twenty-seventh minute on the first of many chances for Christina Lambraia.  After a Spartans turnover just outside of the box, a deflection followed by a quick pass from Barbara Serrano set up Lambraia for her first goal of the season.  The Dolphins maintained control over the match for the remainder of the first half and held a distinct advantage in shots heading into the halftime break.

After a strong showing in the first half, the Dolphins only attempted a single shot in the second half, and would quickly relinquish their one-goal lead.  It was in the fifty-eighth minute that the Spartans would find the back of the net for the first time.  Colette Martucci would register her first goal of the season following a great setup from Sarai Rodriguez to even up the score at one goal per side.  The score remained tied until the eighty-third minute when a Spartans free kick resulted in a loose ball in front of the Dolphins goal.  With the ball loose, Jasmine Blue powered her way through traffic and blasted a shot past Dolphins goalkeeper Sara Villacres inside of the post.  This goal would go down as the game-winner and the Spartans held on for the come-from-behind win, 2-1.

The goal for Lambraia was not just her first of the season but it was also the first of the season for the Dolphins.  For the Spartans, Martucci and Blue both scored for the first time this season helping their team to their first win in conference play.  Today's game was a tale of two halves with the Dolphins holding the statistical advantage across the baord for the first forty-five minutes and the Spartans getting the better of play for the final forty-five minutes.  The Dolphins finished the match with eight shots, three belonging to Lambraia, their goal-scorer, and two more belonging to Serrano, who earned the assist on the CSI goal.

The Dolphins take the pitch again on Wednesday for a non-conference matchup with Goldey-Beacom College.  That game kicks off on from Wilmington, Delaware on Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 PM.
