SWIMMING & DIVING OPENS NE-10 COMPETITION AGAINST ADELPHI AND SCORES WIN OVER HUNTER

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Swimming & Diving Team hosted their first NE-10 meet since joining the conference as an associate member earlier tonight as they faced Adelphi University at The Tank.  The CSI women also faced a familiar foe as they took on Hunter College.  In their first conference action of the season, the Dolphins were beaten the the Panthers, 179-103 in the men's meet and 158-107 in the women's meet.  Against Hunter, the CSI women picked up the win as they defeated the Hawks 151-117.

Though the Dolphins didn't come away with a win in their first conference meet, they did receive some standout performances including a pair of record-setting efforts.  Jordan Swanson took first while breaking the school record in 1-Meter Diving and achieved an NCAA-qualifying score of 289.20.  Edna Melendez also set another new record, this time in the 200-Yard Backstroke.  The CSI freshman posted a time of 2:19.66 in the event giving her the record in both the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke event.  Melendez also took first place in the 200-Yard Butterfly and Jessica Johnson earned first-place finishes in both the 100-Yard Freestyle and 100-Yard Butterfly.

In the men's meet, the Dolphins scored a first-place finish in the 200-Yard Freestyle relay by less than .3 seconds.  A CSI squad of William Kwan, David Poggioli, Nicholas Tartaglione, and Anthony Attenborough posted a time of 1:29.06 in the final event of the night.  Michael Graham also earned the CSI men first-place points in both 1-Meter and 3-Meter Diving.

The Dolphins will return to action in one week as they hit the road for a matchup with Division I Saint Peter's University.
