BASEBALL SPLITS DOUBLEHEADER WITH ADELPHI ON DAY TWO OF MYRTLE BEACH TRIP

Myrtle Beach, SC - The College of Staten Island Baseball Team faced Adelphi University in a doubleheader on day two of their Myrtle Beach trip earlier today and earned a split of the two games against the Panthers.  The Dolphins move to 1-2 on the season with the split which follows a loss against Southern Connecticut State University in yesterday's game.  The Panthers are also 1-2 through their first three games after today's split against the Dolphins.

GAME ONE
The Dolphins struck first in the third inning after inducing a throw to second base on an attempted steal by Jake Myers.  This allowed the first run of the game to come home, and that would be the only run to cross the plate until the ninth inning.  However, this would be more than enough for Dolphins starting pitcher Ryan Kehoe.  After the CSI pitching staff surrendered ten runs in their season opener yesterday, Kehoe went 7 innings for the Dolphins allowing just four hits and striking out five.  The Dolphins would score three times in the final inning, but CSI pitching wouldn't need any of that insurance to close out the win.  Alex Martinez combined with Kehoe to throw nine shutout innings in the CSI victory, and the Dolphins held the Panthers to just four hits.  At the plate, Nick Cippoletti had 2 hits and drove in a run to lead the way offensively as the Dolphins earned their first win of the season.

GAME TWO
After a low-scoring affair in game one of the doubleheader, the two teams combined for 14 runs in game two.  The Panthers opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first, but a Domenick Castiglione RBI-triple evened up the score in the next half-inning.  Castiglione was then chased home on a sacrifice fly to give CSI an early 2-1 lead.  The CSI lead wouldn't last long as the Panthers tied the score in the second, but once again the Dolphins took the lead on a bases loaded walk in the bottom half of the inning.  However, CSI would not lead again beyond this point as the Panthers scored six of the next seven runs to go in front 8-4.  In the final inning, the Dolphins scored twice and brought the tying run to the plate, but the comeback bid would end here as CSI fell 8-6.  Castiglione and Bryan Birkhead each had two hits in the game, and Anthony Vigliotti drove in three runs for the Dolphins.  Alec Maag and Jack Wishner each had two hits for the Panthers batting out of the bottom two spots in the order, and Adelphi managed to score in every inning except the third.

The Dolphins will be back in action on day three of their trip tomorrow as they take on Felician University at noon.
