KNIGHTS PULL AWAY IN SECOND HALF TO KNOCK OFF DOLPHINS, 4-2

Flushing, NY - Earlier tonight, the College of Staten Island Women's Soccer Team renewed their rivalry with CUNY rival Queens College on the road and fell to the Knights by a final score of 4-2.  Each team scored once during the first 45 minutes, but Queens pulled away in the second half scoring three of the last four goals.  The win improves the Knights to 5-4-0 on the season and 2-1 against the ECC.  The Dolphins are now 0-7-2 on the year and 0-3-1 against the conference.

It only took four shots total for each team to find the back of the net for the first time during the first twelve minutes of the match.  First, the Knights opened with three straight shots, the last of which was scored by Anna Tavantzis.  Less than thirty seconds later, the Dolphins responded with a goal by Caitlyn Thompson, her second of the season.  Following the Dolphins goal, the Knights went on to attempt the final ten shots of the first half.  However, Dolphins goalkeeper Sara Villacres and the CSI defense managed to keep the score even through one half of play.

After the halftime break, the Knights managed to match their first-half shot production and continued to keep the pressure on the Dolphins.  The first four shots after halftime also belonged to Queens, and Tavantzis put the last of those into the back of the net for her second goal of the game.  Ten minutes later, Ashley Kieblesz doubled the Knights lead with the third Queens goal, but the Dolphins answered with a Jenna Como goal soon after.  The CSI deficit remained on until the closing minutes when Julia Ragone put the game away with a fourth Knights goal in the 88th minute.

The Knights finished the match with a 28-6 advantage in shots forcing CSI goalkeeper Villacres to make 11 saves.  Como's goal comes in what was her season debut for the Dolphins after returning to the field for the first time since 2022.  Four Dolphins played the full 90 minutes in addition to Villacres as Emily Albano, Isabella Radovini, Megan Meagher and Arielle Uy all went the distance in the match.

The Dolphins will have a week off before returning home next Saturday when they face Mercy University at 12:00 PM.  The team will be hosting a winter coat drive that day as well, and any donation can be brought to the game or to the drop box located in the lobby of building 1R.
