MEN'S SWIMMING & DIVING SCORES VICTORY OVER FDU-FLORHAM; DEVILS NARROWLY WIN WOMEN'S MEET

10/11/2025 3:30:00 PM

STATEN ISLAND, NY - The College of Staten Island Swimming & Diving team hosted FDU-Florham at The Tank on Saturday afternoon in their second meet of the 2025-26 season.  It was a decisive win for the CSI men as they defeated the Devils by a score of 168-43.  The women's meet was much closer as the Devils narrowly edged out the Dolphins by a final score of 134-116.

The first victory of the meet for the Dolphins came in the men's 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:44.08.  For the women, their first win came in the 200-yard freestyle as Maria Janecka posted a time of 2:02.55, more than three seconds ahead of the next closest swimmer.  Julian Lopez posted the best time (1:50.17) among five CSI men who competed in the same event moments later.

Polly Struck took first in the 200-yard IM by nearly nine seconds (2:20.90) and James Curran took first (2:19.51) in the same event for the men.  William Kwan scored another victory for the CSI men in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 55.89, and Janecka posted the top time in the 100-yard freestyle with a 54.99 mark.  Vlad Siniagovskii led four CSI swimmers with a time of 55.62 in the 100-yard backstroke, and Curran would place at the top of the field (5:34.98) in the 500-yard freestyle.

With the meet hanging in the balance for the CSI women, Struck took the win in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:11.87), but this would not be enough to push the Dolphins past the Devils.  The men concluded the meet with a Lopez victory (1:05.17) in the same event and a first-place time of 1:41.86 in the 200-yard freestyle.

Competing in both 1M and 3M Diving, Yubal Parra and Jacqueline DeFranco both earned the Dolphins 18 total points.  DeFranco posted scores of 220.30 and 194.50 in 1M and 3M respectively.  Coming off an NCAA-qualifying performance in last week's Kick Off Invite, Parra posted 1M and 3M scores of 298.65 and 363.15.

The men's and women's swimming and diving team will have a week off before they return to the Tank on Friday, Oct. 24 for their 4:00 PM conference opener against Adelphi and Felician.
