BASEBALL ELIMINATED FROM CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP WITH LOSS TO QUEENS, 8-1

Niagara Falls, NY - The College of Staten Island Baseball Team saw their season come to an end earlier today as they fell to Queens College in their second outing at the 2025 East Coast Conference Baseball Championship.  After both the Dolphins and Knights lost on Thursday, the two teams faced off in an elimination game to open the second day of play in Niagara Falls, NY.  Queens jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, and the Dolphins would never get any closer than two beyond that point.  With the win, Queens moved on to face Mercy later in the day, a game they would win 17-2 to advance to the tournament's championship round.  CSI ends their season 18-28 overall after completing their first-ever trip to the postseason as a Division II program.

Two Dolphins reached in the first inning, but a double play quickly brought that threat to an end without a run scoring.  Queens then moved a runner to third in the bottom half of the inning, but once again that runner was stranded to keep the game scoreless.  It was in the second that the Knights would strike for three runs on three hits.  Two walks, the second of which forced home a run, set the stage for a 2-RBI single to put Queens ahead, 3-0.  The Dolphins got a run back on a TJ Laino RBI double in the fourth, but Laino was tagged out at third trying to advance on a ground ball moments later.  The Dolphins would settle for just one run in the inning, and this would be the only time they would score.  Leading 3-1, Queens would score the final five runs as they went on to win by a score of 8-1.

Laino and JJ Hunter each had two hits for the Dolphins, but CSI finished with just seven hits in the game.  A pair of errors brought home two unearned runs for Queens, and CSI pitching issued six walks.  Alex Martinez allowed just one earned run in 4.2 innings of relief, and Michael Furst allowed one run in 1.1 innings.  Francesco Bonvini got the start and took the loss allowing three runs in 2.0 innings.

While the season ended for the Dolphins today, the ECC Championship continues through Saturday.  The Queens College Knights will face the Molloy University Lions in the Championship Finals.  One win for the Lions earns them a conference championship.  The Knights will need to win back-to-back games against the Lions to secure a conference title.
