STATEN ISLAND, NY – The College of Staten Island men's and women's swimming and diving teams celebrated Senior Day on Wednesday evening at the Tank during their final home meet of the season against Brooklyn College. The Dolphins swept the night, with the women earning a 172–64 victory and the men securing a 154–113 win.
Before the first event, CSI honored seniors Katarina Tsirlin, Vlad Siniagovskii, Eslam Hussein, Dylan Martinson, and William Kwan for their contributions to the swimming and diving programs.
The women dominated the meet, winning the majority of events. CSI opened the night with a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay as Polly Struck, Michalina Bukowska, Maria Janecka, and Maja Tomaszewska touched the wall in 1:59.88. Bukowska later claimed first in the 200 freestyle (2:09.83) and placed second in the 100 backstroke (1:18.34). Tomaszewska and Janecka combined for multiple individual victories, with Tomaszewska winning the 50 back (30.16) and 100 back (1:04.92), while Janecka took first in the 100 butterfly (59.31), 100 freestyle (56.15), and the 500 fly (27.70). Struck added wins in the 50 breaststroke (33.39) and the 100 IM (1:05.84). The women closed out the meet with another relay victory in the 200 freestyle relay, led by Nicole Controy, Aurelia Barbagallo, Caitlyn Halligan, and Tsirlin.
On the men's side, CSI also opened strong with a win in the 200 medley relay. The team of Elliot Radov, Tiki Keats, Martinson, and Andi Bajollari finished first with a time of 1:45.50. Siniagovskii posted the first individual win for the men in the 50 backstroke (25.17), then followed with victories in the 100 back (57.50) and the 50 butterfly (23.91). In the final relay event of the night, the Dolphins entered three teams, each featuring three of the four senior men, who raced head-to-head to cap off the Senior Day celebration.
In the diving events, Yubal Parra and Jacqueline DeFranco swept both boards. Parra recorded a score of 331.85 in the 1-meter (11-dive) event and 366.20 in the 3-meter (6-dive), while DeFranco posted scores of 243.05 on 1-meter and 222.70 on 3-meter.
The CSI swimming and diving teams return to action on Saturday, January 24, when they travel to Bridgeport, Connecticut, to face the University of Bridgeport in their final regular-season meet, scheduled for 10:30 AM.
