STATEN ISLAND, NY – The College of Staten Island men's and women's swimming and diving teams will return to the Tank on Friday evening to host FDU-Florham and Hunter College. Hunter will compete exclusively in the women's events, while FDU-Florham will field both its men's and women's teams.
2025-26 Meeting:
Last season, the Dolphins hosted FDU and Hunter in the same meet following their Kick-Off Invitational. The men's team earned a decisive 168-43 victory over the Devils, while the women's team fell to FDU-Florham, 134-116, but defeated Hunter, 177-79.
On the women's side, Maria Janecka, Polly Struck, and Jacqueline DeFranco led the way with multiple first-place finishes. Janecka won the 200-yard freestyle (2:02.55) and 100-yard freestyle (54.99), while Struck took first in the 200-yard individual medley (2:20.90) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:11.87). For the men's team, Julian Lopez, James Curran, and Vlad Siniagovskii recorded key first-place finishes to help propel the Dolphins to victory over FDU. Lopez led five CSI competitors in the 200-yard freestyle, finishing first with a time of 1:50.17. Curran won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:19.51 and the 500-yard freestyle in 5:34.98, while Siniagovskii took first in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 55.62.
Overall Meeting Overview:
On the women's side, the Dolphins have a long-standing history with Hunter, dating back to their days as CUNYAC opponents in Division III. The first meeting between the programs came during the 1999-2000 season, when CSI edged the Hawks, 62-60, to take an early lead in the all-time series. The Dolphins added another victory in 2000-01 before Hunter established its dominance in the matchup. The Hawks currently hold an 18-7 advantage in the all-time series. However, since CSI transitioned to Division II, the Dolphins have won four consecutive meetings against Hunter.
Against FDU, the women's team trails the all-time series, 4-2. The two programs first met while CSI was competing in Division III, with the Dolphins earning their two victories in 2018 and 2019. In their most recent meetings, spanning the 2023-24 season through last year, the Devils have won three consecutive matchups.
On the men's side, the Dolphins hold a 5-1 advantage in the all-time series against FDU. CSI's only loss came in the programs' inaugural meeting during the 2017-18 season. Since then, the Dolphins have won five straight matchups, consistently holding the Devils to double-digit point totals while continuing to build on their scoring success. Last season's 168-point performance marked CSI's highest team score in the series.
