HAMMOND SCORES AS DOLPHINS SECURE FIRST EVER WIN OVER DAEMEN

STATEN ISLAND, NY – The College of Staten Island women's soccer team returned to Dolphins Soccer Park Saturday afternoon for an East Coast Conference (ECC) matchup against Daemen University. The Dolphins entered the day looking for not only their first ECC win of the season, but also their first-ever victory over the Wildcats.

CSI controlled play throughout the first half, recording 11 shots compared to just two for the Wildcats. Midway through the half, Riley Hammond came away with a takeaway in Wildcat territory and found Mia Cole, who pushed the ball toward the net. After another small poke back to Hammond, she found the back of the net to give the Dolphins a 1-0 lead.

Entering the second half, the Wildcats turned up the offensive pressure, recording 12 shots in the frame while holding the Dolphins to four. Oksana Zahirna came up big in goal, making seven saves on the day, including six in the second half, to fend off the Wildcats' attempts to find the equalizer and force a draw.

The Dolphins held on for the 1-0 victory, securing their first-ever win over Daemen while improving to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

Hammond led the Dolphins with the game-winning goal, while Cole recorded the assist. Caitlyn Thompson finished with four shots, while Addison Lucy added three.

The College of Staten Island women's soccer team will hit the road once again on Wednesday to face Molloy University in Rockville Centre, NY at 4:00 PM.
