LAFAYETTE HILL, PA – The College of Staten Island baseball team returned to action Saturday afternoon following its Spring Training trip to Myrtle Beach, facing Chestnut Hill College in a single nine-inning non-conference contest.
In the afternoon, the Dolphins fell, 11–5 to drop to 1-3 to start their 2026 season.
Michael Flashner led off the game and moved into scoring position on a Jamel Vera single. The pair each swiped a base to be put in scoring position, allowing Jason Romance to drive in Flasher with an RBI at-bat for the game's first run. Moments later, Romance attempted to steal second, and the throw allowed Vera to score, giving CSI an early 2–0 advantage.
After the first inning, the Dolphins were held scoreless until the fourth, while the Griffins used a one-out rally to take a 3–2 lead in the bottom of the third.
Vera continued his strong day at the plate in the fourth inning after being hit by a pitch and quickly stealing second. He advanced to third on a balk, setting the stage for Jandel Brito, who delivered an RBI single to tie the game at 3. The Griffins responded in the bottom of the fourth with a run to regain the lead, 4–3 and following a scoreless fifth inning for both teams, the Griffins broke the game open in the sixth with five runs to extend their advantage to 9–3.
The Dolphins added a run in both the seventh and eighth innings on RBI singles from Christopher Reilly and Brito, but CSI ultimately fell short, 11–5.
In the ninth inning, the Dolphins mounted one final push starting with Flashner, who singled to lead off the frame, and Vera followed two batters later to put two runners on with one out. Jaden Waterman then drew a walk to load the bases, but a pop-up ended the rally and sealed the non-conference loss.
Vera led the Dolphins offensively, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs scored. Flashner and Brito each finished 2-for-4, with Brito driving in a team-high two RBI. Waterman reached base four times via walks. On the mound, Aidan Kielty started and pitched 3.0 innings with two strikeouts. Alex Martinez was charged with the loss after throwing 2.0 innings and recording one strikeout.
The College of Staten Island baseball team return to action on Tuesday, March 3, when they travel to Holy Family University for a 4:00 PM matchup.
