Series History – Dolphins Trail Spartans 9-13-1
The Dolphins and Spartans share a history that dates back well before CSI's transition to Division II. The first meeting between the programs came in 1980 and ended in a 6-6 tie, marking the only draw in the all-time series.
Following that inaugural contest, the teams met four additional times prior to CSI joining the Division II ranks, with the Dolphins winning each of those matchups to claim four consecutive victories over the Spartans.
From 2021 through 2023, however, St. Thomas Aquinas went on a run of its own, winning seven straight meetings in the series. That streak was snapped on April 28, 2023, when the Dolphins secured a 10-3 victory in game two of a doubleheader, marking CSI's first win over the Spartans since their earlier matchups decades prior. Since then, the Dolphins have either split doubleheaders with the Spartans or fallen in both contests.
2025 Meetings
During the 2025 season, the two programs met three times. Their first matchup came on April 19 in Staten Island, where the Dolphins split a doubleheader with the Spartans. CSI took game one in a high-scoring 14-11 victory before dropping the second game, 11-4.
The final meeting of the season came two days later on April 21 in Pomona at Clover Stadium. In that contest, the Dolphins broke the game open early with a six-run third inning, highlighted by a two-RBI single from JJ Hunter that helped CSI build a comfortable lead. The Spartans attempted to respond with a run in the fourth inning and another in the eighth, but the Dolphins maintained control to secure a 9-2 victory.
