NIAGARA FALLS, NY – The College of Staten Island baseball team traveled to Niagara Falls on Friday afternoon to open a four-game series against D'Youville University. In the series opener, the Dolphins were edged, 1–0, in a tightly contested pitchers' duel.
Both teams remained scoreless through the first four and a half innings before the Saints broke through with a run in the fifth, using a double to plate what would stand as the game's only score.
Offense was limited on both sides, with just seven total hits recorded. Michael Flashner led the Dolphins with two hits, while Jaden Waterman added one. Trailing by one in the fifth, Flashner delivered a two-out double to put the tying run in scoring position, but CSI was unable to bring him home.
The Dolphins were held in check down the stretch, with their only baserunner over the final two innings coming on a walk by Jason Romance in the seventh.
On the mound, Michael Furst turned in a strong start, tossing 6.1 innings while allowing just one run and striking out two. Aidan Kielty followed in relief, working 1.2 innings and recording one strikeout.
The Dolphins (9-17 / 4-10 ECC) will return to action on Saturday afternoon for a doubleheader against the Saints, with first pitch scheduled for 12:00 PM.
