NIAGARA FALLS, NY – The College of Staten Island baseball team wrapped up its regular-season series against D'Youville University on Sunday afternoon in Niagara Falls. Rookie Jason Romance accounted for both of the Dolphins' runs, recording two RBI on the day.
The Saints secured the series finale with a 12-2 victory over the Dolphins.
D'Youville set the tone early, plating two runs in the bottom of the first to take an immediate lead. CSI responded in the top of the third when Jamel Vera advanced to second on a ground out, allowing Romance to drive in the Dolphins' first run and cut the deficit to 2-1.
The Saints quickly answered with a three-run inning to extend their advantage to 5-1 and maintained control for the remainder of the game. CSI's final run came in the fifth inning when Brandon Bartick singled and moved into scoring position on a passed ball. He later advanced to third before Romance delivered again with an RBI single to bring him home.
D'Youville continued to add on, scoring in multiple innings en route to the 12-2 final.
Romance led the Dolphins with two RBI on two hits, while Bartick, Ryan Ortega, and Jack Kehoe each recorded a hit. Alex Martinez made the start on the mound, pitching 3.1 innings with three strikeouts. In relief, Anthony Abruzese and Andrew Ozoria each struck out one batter, while Anthony Fusco and Ryan Fiore recorded two strikeouts apiece.
With the loss, the Dolphins fall to 9-20 overall and 4-13 in East Coast Conference play.
CSI will return home on Wednesday for its annual Heroes Game, hosting Felician University at Staten Island University Hospital Community Park at 7:30 PM.
