CALDWELL, NJ – The College of Staten Island women's soccer team hit the road for the first time this season, traveling to Caldwell, NJ, to face Caldwell University Saturday afternoon. The Dolphins came away with their first win of the 2026 season, earning a 1-0 victory and giving head coach Maddy Wright her first career win at the helm of the Dolphins program.
Both teams battled evenly throughout the first half, with the Dolphins recording four shots compared to six for the Cougars. CSI continued to make an impact on set pieces, as Caitlyn Thompson sent a corner kick into the middle of the box. The ball deflected off a Caldwell defender and into the net, giving the Dolphins a 1-0 lead that they would hold for the remainder of the match.
The Cougars increased the pressure in the second half, recording 10 shots, but CSI goalkeeper Oksana Zahirna stood tall between the posts. Zahirna stopped all 11 Caldwell shots on goal, securing the shutout and preserving the Dolphins' first victory of the season.
Sienna Patella led the Dolphins with two shots, with both finding their way on goal. Mia Cole, Addison Lucy, Mazzy Cirinelli, and Lea Capuano each recorded one shot.
The College of Staten Island women's soccer team (1-2) will return to action next Saturday when the Dolphins open East Coast Conference (ECC) play against D'Youville University at 12:00 PM in Staten Island, NY.
