BASIC INFORMATION
First founded in 1976 through the union of two existing colleges- Staten Island Community College and Richmond College, the College of Staten Island is a four-year, senior college of The City University of New York. CSI is the only public four-year institution of high learning on Staten Island. Programs in liberal arts and sciences and professional studies lead to bachelor's and associate's degrees. Enrollment in baccalaureate programs requires freshmen admission standards consistent with those of CUNY senior colleges. The CUNY Honors Program at CSI offers a challenging undergraduate experience shaped by the combined resources of CUNY and New York City.
The Home of the Dolphins, the Sports & Recreation Center, opened in 1995 and along with its surrounding facilities, offers a complete athletic experience. The Center houses a 1,200 seat arena, which is home to the men's and women's basketball team and women's volleyball team. Along with the main gymnasium, the facility is also equipped with an auxiliary gym with indoor batting cages, practice space for every intercollegiate team, two separate fitness centers, a complete athletic training station, and five glass racquetball courts. There is also an eight-lane swimming pool with one and three meter diving boards, which is home to the men's and women's swim programs. The outdoor facilities adjacent to the Sports & Recreation Center include six-domed and six-outdoor tennis courts for our men's and women's tennis teams. A 2,500 seat baseball complex, former home for the Staten Island Yankees, plays host to our baseball team while our softball team plays on our new FieldTurf equipped softball field. Not to be outdone, our men's and women's soccer team make use of both FieldTurf and grass soccer fields for practice and competition.
