Making his collegiate coaching debut as a head coach, Juan Lopez joined the women's volleyball program in time for the 2014 season. The CSI hardwood is a familiar one for the first-time head coach. Lopez spent the 2012 season on the sidelines as a volunteer assistant before taking over full assistant coach duties in 2013. Lopez not only matriculated into the women's position, but took on added responsibilities as head coach of the men’s program, which debuted in 2015 at CSI as a full varsity sport within the CUNYAC.
Lopez has been playing volleyball his whole life, and has transferred his knowledge of the game as a player to the sideline as a coach. He believes in strong discipline and work ethic on the court, believing that a team that stays in constant motion and communication on the court is a team that will ultimately achieve success.
Alongside his work on the volleyball courts, Lopez is the store manager at TJX Companies since 1999, where he oversees a staff of 90 store associates for the fashion retailer.
Lopez currently resides in the Great Kills section of Staten Island.
