Gianna DeCesare

Gianna DeCesare returns to the College of Staten Island as part of the 2026 softball coaching staff as of November 2025. During her time with the Dolphins, from the years of 2015-17, she was part of the team who won the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) Championship three-years in a row. 

DeCesare become her coaching experience during her college years as a coach for Westerleigh Little League in Staten Island, NY. From 2014-2016, she was the Assistant Head Coach and Head Pitching Coach for New Dorp High School in Staten Island, NY and she also volunteered to coach at The College of Staten Island from 2017-2018.

In 2017, she was selected to be the Head JV Coach for Xaverian. During the first year, she helped rebuild and restructure the program through player development and conditioning. In 2019 & 2022 the team won the CHSAA Annual Easter Tournament in Queens, NY. Then in 2021, 2023 & 2024 the team won the Joan A. Walsh Memorial Softball Tournament for CHSAA. DeCesare also led Xaverian to win the Mudville (Cooperstown) Tournament in 2023.

DeCesare finished her last high school coaching career back at Moore Catholic High School, in 2025 as the head coach. After not having a JV softball team for almost 10 years the powerhouse Moore Catholic, came out last year for the first time winning the CHSAA Annual Easter Tournament in Queens, NY. DeCesare also led her high school team last year taking 1st place in the City and going out as the Archdiocese City Champions. As a former player for the Mavericks, she was a four-year starting pitcher and infielder on the JV and Varsity squads for the CHSAA Powerhouse from 2008-2012. She was elected team captain and was crowned MVP for three consecutive years (2010, 2011, and 2012) and was part of the 2010 state and city recognition team, winning the CHSAA city championship and was the 2012 runner-up in te state championship. 

On top of her high school coaching experience, Gianna started her own private softball instruction with private pitching lessons for "Coach G's Girls" where she trains over 80 clients and players each week. Additionally, in 2022 she started her own travel organization, "The Staten Island Assassins" and currently have 7 teams within the organization and is the director and owner of the group.
