College of Staten Island Athletics

Men’s Cross Country runner Mario Ahmed has been chosen as the College of Staten Island’s Male Athlete of the Month for October. The sophomore is a first year runner for the Dolphins and comes from BNC Durfee High School in Massachusetts. As a first year team, CSI ended with an 8^th place spot in the CUNYAC Championships.

On October 5^th, Ahmed placed 8^th in the Brooklyn College Invitational 6K run with a time of 30:15. The following week, Ahmed increased to 5^th place with a time of 18:08.78 in the CSI Invitational 5K run. In the final meet before the Championship, Ahmed sped up his time coming in 5^th again at the 17:50.08 mark, his best of the season in the 5k run. At the CUNYAC Championships, Ahmed came in 9^th with a time of 29:53.3, his best time in an 8K run.

Ahmed was named CUNYAC Rookie of the Week for the week of October 19^th. With the cross country season over, Ahmed will be a part of the CSI Men’s Swimming and Diving team.
