DOLPHIN WOMEN CAPTURE VICTORY; MEN FALL IN MEET VS. MARITIME

College of Staten Island women took their first win in swimming on Tuesday evening against SUNY-Maritime. The Dolphins captured a 95-92 for a 1-4 record on the season. The men of CSI fell to Maritime, 132-100, as they dropped to a 1-2 season record.

The teams were close on the women's side before CSI stretched to a 13 point lead after the ninth event. Capturing first place in the final two events only brought Maritime within three of CSI and it was not enough for the win.

Vasiliki Stergiuola captured two golden wins for the Dolphins with a 2:26.34 time in the 200 Freestyle and 1:04.24 in the 100 Freestyle.  Lauren Overeem and Priscila Alvarez also grabbed a gold medal each.

Despite taking 10 first place wins, the CSI men didn't have enough swimmers to score. Vlad Romanov took three golds; the 200 Freestyle with a time of 1:48.04, the 200 Backstroke at 1:55.24 and the 400 Medley relay with a 3:34.54 time alongside teammates Yury Zimarev, Timur Rakhimov and Danila Novikov. Zimarev also captured two golds on his own in the 100 Butterfly and the 50 Freestyle.

The Dolphins will be back in action in December as they take on Brooklyn College on December 7th at home at 6:00 pm.
