Box Score The College of Staten got back on the winning side of the ledger tonight, outscoring City College of New York, 41-19, in the second stanza to score a 67-44 win over the Beavers as part of CUNYAC play at the Nat Holman Gynamsium earlier this evening. Winners of five out of their last six, CSI improved to 5-4 overall and 3-0 in the CUNYAC, while the Beavers fell to 1-7, 1-3, respectively.
CSI took an early 6-0 advantage, and later extended to 13-2 on a
Melanie Johnson jumper. For the remainder of the first half, CCNY looked to rally, and the host team used a 6-0 run to close the half to make the score 26-25 at intermission.
From there, however, the game belonged to the Dolphins. Despite being out-rebounded, 53-39, CSI turned things up, shooting 42% in the frame next to CCNY's 16.7% to garner the lop-sided win. An 11-0 run, ending at 15:32, did a host of the damage, with Johnson and
Lisa Galasso each tallying four points in the run. That game the Dolphins a 42-27 edge that was never in doubt.
CSI was led by
Megan Myhre's 18 points to go with four rebounds. Sophomore
Nikki Fabozzi added 13 markers and a team-high seven rebounds. Galasso poured in 12 points and five assists. For the Beavers, Kendra Rivers led the way with 9 points, while Bria Fisher finished with eight points and a game-high 15 rebounds.
CSI will now be idle for 11 days before they get back to action on Saturday, December 22, when they host St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn at 1pm.
