The College of Staten Island men's tennis team broke into the win column, turning back St. Joseph's College (LI) on the road in Patchogue, New York, 6-3. CSI improved to 1-3 on the early season, while the Golden Eagles fell to 1-2.
After doubles, CSI got themselves ahead by a 2-1 advantage, winning the top two spots. Nick Zikos and
Daniel Ursomanno teammed up to score an 8-6 win at the top spot, while
Riad Hamai and
Austin Kapetanakis won by the same score in the No. 2 spot. The team of Adam Friel and Ralph Gallo for SJC took a win in the third doubles match to keep the match close.
CSI needed only a split in singles to earn the win but went one better, notching wins in four places to take the 6-3 final. Zikos, Hamai, and Ursomanno did the honors in the top three spots, while Kapetanakis earned a win in the six-spot, 6-2, 6-4.
CSI will open up the CUNYAC portion of their schedule on Sunday, when they take on Brooklyn College at the CSI Tennis Center at 1pm.
