Women's Basketball Defeats York to Win Fourth Straight

Box Score  JAMAICA, NY – The winning streak continues for the College of Staten Island women's basketball team as they opened season conference play with a convincing 85-47 win over York College, Tuesday.
 
With the win, the Dolphins improve to 4-1 overall on the season and are now 1-0 in CUNYAC play, while the Cardinals fall to 0-4 and 0-1 in the conference.
 
Staten Island took an early lead as they opened with a 16-6 run to give them a 10-point lead at the 10-minute mark. Their stellar play continued throughout the half, extending their lead to 25 at one point, but finished the half with a 20-point lead with a score of 45-25.
 
The Dolphins stellar play continued into the second half, as Lisa Galasso registered nine points after the intermission. Galasso went on to tally 14 points total and played stellar defense as she grabbed a team-high four rebounds and a season-high six steals.
 
For the fourth straight game, CSI had four players score in double-figures as Meghan Myhre led the offensive effort with 17 points, followed by Galasso with 14, while Nikki Fabozzi tallied 12 and Melaine Johnson added 11 points.
 
Leading the way for the Cardinals was Shauncia McClendon who registered the games only double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds.
 
The Dolphins shot 42.6 percent, compared to the 26.2 percent by the Cardinals, while also winning the battle of the boards out rebounding York 48-46.
 
The Dolphins return to the hardwood on December 3 as they take on Mount St. Mary at 7pm at the College of Staten Island Sports and Recreation Center.
