Dolphins Down Roadrunners in Season Home Opener

Box Score STATEN ISLAND, NY -  It was a tale of two halves for the College of Staten Island men's basketball team as the Dolphins struggled to get into the groove for the first half, but it was all about the CSI offense after the break as the Dolphins managed to pull away and beat Ramapo College, 109-92, Thursday.

The win for CSI not only breaks its four-game skid against the Roadrunners, but it brings Ramapo's current four-game winning-streak to a close to put them at 4-4 overall on the season. On the flip side, the Staten Island win pushes the Dolphins to an impressive 5-2 overall record, capped by a four-game winning streak.

During the first half of play, it was a shootout as both teams were able to sink over 50% of all shots taken. In fact, Staten Island fired an incredible 62 percent from the floor during the first half, edging out Ramapo's shooting percentage at 55%.

However, it was during the second half when the Dolphins brought their defense out to play and limited the Roadrunners to just 40 percent from the field, which was 15 percent worse than the first half.

Leading the way for the Dolphins was Will Forensca as he not only dominated the boards, grabbing six on the evening, but led all scorers with an incredible season and career-high 31 points. However, not to be overshadowed on the offensive front for Staten Island was Frankie Schettino, who registered a double-double on the  night, marking his second of the season. Schettino registered 23 points and an amazing 13 assists.

Defensively, it was Javon Cox  and Dylan Bulger that were able to dominate the defense for CSI. In addition to adding 16 points, Cox led the team boards as he grabbed 10 boards and added three steals. Cox has no registered his second double-double of the season as well. In terms of Bulger, the beast from Staten Island sent three shots back to sender, while tallying nine points and six boards.

The Dolphins return to their home court this weekend when they take on conference foe CCNY in a special game that will officially reveal the new gym floor at the CSI Sports and Recreation Center. So please join us for the ceremonial ribbon-cutting, which will take place between the men's (7:30 p.m.) and women's game (5 p.m.).
