Box Score The College of Staten Island women's basketball squad won for the fourth-straight time, not letting a long road trip phase them, by taking an 85-58 win over Gallaudet University in a non-conference test played at Gallaudet's Field House Arena in Washington, DC. The win improved the squad to 10-3, while GU dipped to 6-7.
CSI, which is perfect in the New Year, shot a blistering 51.7% from the field tonight, complete with a season-high 15 three-pointers in 27 attempts, good for a 55.6% clip. CSI never trailed, scoring the game's first seven points, the first five from junior
Nikki Fabozzi. With 10:31 to go in the first frame, and CSI nursing a modest lead, 17-13, the Dolphins erupted for a 14-0 run over the next four minutes. It was the turning point of the game as
Jamie Pifalo nailed three three-pointers in the stretch.
A three-pointer by Fabozzi gave CSI its biggest first-half lead at 45-23, before the Dolphins for a 49-28 lead at intermission. In the second frame, GU never got to within 20 points as CSI was able to stay on the offensive. A 17-3 run over a four-minute lapse, aided by two Fabozzi three's and a pair of
Katelyn Hepworth lay-ups, gave CSI a commanding, 77-42 edge with just over eight minutes to play and CSI sailed from there, leading by as many as 37, before settling for the 27-point final edge.
CSI was led by Fabozzi's 23 points on an amazing 7-8 shooting day from beyond the arc.
Melanie Johnson added 20 points and a team-high 9 rebounds while Hepworth came off of the bench to dump in 15 points and eight boards. GU was led by Lindsay Stergio's 21 points and Lane Peters' 10 rebounds.
CSI out-rebounded GU, 36-27 and forced 17 GU turnovers. The unselfish Dolphins scattered 26 assists, led by
Victoria Gallinaro's eight helpers.
CSI is back in action on Wednesday evening, hosting John Jay College at the Sports & Recreation Center in a 5:30pm start.
