DOLPHINS CONTINUE ROLL; WIN SEVENTH-STRAIGHT VIA BARUCH, 64-53

Box Score On a night when the Dolphins got more than half of their points from their bench, the College of Staten Island men's basketball squad scored a 64-53 winner over Baruch College as part of CUNYAC play at BC's Athletics & Recreation Center.  The win, the seventh-straight for CSI, lifted the Dolphins to 8-2 overall and a perfect 3-0 in conference play, while the Bearcats fell to 6-6, 3-2, respectively.

CSI got off to a fast start, racing out to a 6-1 edge after the game's first five minutes on three interior layups.  Baruch did not score its first field goal until 5:15 in, a three-pointer by Raymond DeLaCruz, and after another three from Edward Roscigno, CSI answered with a 7-2 run to extend to 15-9, helped along by a jumper from senior Bloochy Magloire and another inside drive from Dylan Bulger.

Inside of 10 minutes to play in the first stanza, Baruch tried to chip away, coming to within one, before CSI again raced ahead, taking a 27-20 edge on a three-pointer by Jonathan Chadwick-Myers, and with inside of three minutes to go, baskets by Will Fonseca and Kevin King matched CSI's biggest lead of the stanza, eight points, ending in a CSI 34-26 halftime edge.

The opening stages of the second half, however, proved that the Bearcats would never go quietly.  The home squad powered to a 16-4 run over the first 6:41 of the frame, taking a 42-38 edge, spearheaded by three Granville Gittens lay-ups.

With 12:05 to go and Baruch nursing its biggest lead at 44-39, it was time for CSI to answer, and the Dolphins proved up to the task.  Consecutive lay-ups by Javon Cox and Fonseca started a 12-2 run the other way, and just like that, the Dolphins had a five-point lead of their own, 51-46.

From there, the Dolphins never looked back, extending to as many as eight points before the final two minutes, where CSI was able to nurse the lead further via the free-throw line en route to the 64-53 final.

CSI was led by Cox's 15 points to go with 9 rebounds, but beyond that, CSI was powered by its bench, as Bloochy Magloire (12 points), Will Fonseca (11 pts., 9 rebounds), and Chadwick-Myers (10 pts.) all finished in double digits.  Gittens finished with 13 for Baruch, while DeLaCruz ended with 11 markers.  CSI owned a 44-34 edge on the glass.

The Dolphins will continue their CUNYAC slate into next week.  The team will host Lehman College at 7:30pm on Tuesday, January 7, in what will be their CUNYAC home opener.
